Guinga is one of the great compositional voices in the world today, capable of writing sublime, lyrical melodies and jaw-dropping burners alike. I first heard this piece played by Guinga himself at Scullers jazz club in Boston. Shortly thereafter, 7-string master Marcello Gonçalves suggested I study it develop the technique to play fast baselines in choro, known as baixaria.
